Evictions

Mark is committed to building confidence in the justice system through clear rulings, transparent courtroom procedures, and ensuring every party understands what happened and why. When justice is understood, it is trusted.

During his previous tenure in office, Judge Mark Fury handled more eviction cases annually than any other JP in Harris County. Formally called “Forcible Entry and Detainer” cases, Mark heard these cases five days per week, seven days after the case was served, as intended by Texas Law. His rulings were predictable and always within the law. Mark is fully bi-lingual (Spanish and English, so when a tenant speaks only Spanish and an apartment manager is also bi-lingual, with mutual consent, Mark can conduct the trial in Spanish. This greatly helps some tenants understand what was happening. In courts where interpreters or other forms of assistance to Spanish-speaking-only tenants are not available, tenants often leave confused and uncertain about what just happened and whether justice was done. When litigants understand what was said and what happened at trial, justice is served. Mark prioritizes building confidence in the justice system in Texas and in the judicial process. Most of the population will directly interface with a court only through a Justice of the Peace Court. When Justice is served, and the process and ruling are clear, we build confidence in the Texas justice system.

Building confidence in the system through good courtroom process, transparency and clear rulings is important to Mark.
